You're right, things did take forever on the show. But the movies usually were perfect. but with DBZ, for me, it was a fresh, original concept that hasn't been replicated in any other show (at least that I could find)

Rumor has it this is the first movie that Toriyama was ever involved in. Plus since it is a movie the pace has to be quick or the story doesn't get resolved. There are no DBZ trilogies.

I mean after watching Dragon Ball and then finding out Goku is an alien race that has the ability to transform into giant monkeys, things got a bit crazy.
